AVSRDF Meeting, Sunday, September 20, 2015

Lou Stiles, President called the meeting to order at 1:48 p.m. with 9 members in attendance. Pat Loutzenhiser read the minutes of the March 2015 meeting. They were approved as read. Ruthie Stiles gave the treasurer’s report. Rich Loutzenhiser made a motion to accept it and Nels Frick seconded. Motion passed.

Club Reports:
ABC Dancers – We had 3 squares Friday night with Scott Brown, Shawn Brown and Lisa Minton calling and cueing. We changed our Sunday dances to the third Fridays of March, June and September. The New Year’s dances will be kept on the New Year’s eve date for the year. This year’s New Year’s Eve dance will be Thursday Dec 31, 2015 from 9 p.m. – 12:15 a.m. with Tom Mohney calling and Nathan Parrot cueing at the First United Methodist Church, 73 Clinton St, Greenville PA.
Castle Paws and Taws – Mary Ruth McCall said that they average 2 to 3 sets per dance. Fun night was not well attended, with no potential new students. The Benefit dance that was held for Nathan Parrot last Sunday was well attended. We estimated 175 to 200 people attended. We had at least 10 sets on the floor most of the afternoon. Over $6,000 was raised to assist Nathan with his medical bills, so we were very pleased to assist Nathan and were pleased with the support from the square dance community. We had people from as far away as Cleveland and Warren PA in attendance. We will sponsor our 19th Annual Black Light dance on Sept 23 from 8 – 10:30 p.m. at Cascade Park Pavilion. Tom Strickland will be calling and Bruce Haislip will be cueing. Dances will continue on a weekly basis at Cascade Park through the end of October. Then the dances will be held at the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center, weekly until Dec 16, 2015. Dances will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays in Jan, Feb and March and will return to the weekly schedules in April.
Circle 8 – John and Olivia Sechriest said that they dance twice a month with 2 – 3 squares. The club is well received for demos at a country home every other month. They are undecided about lessons.
Fiddle-A-Rounds – They met on Thursday July 9, 2015 at the Monroe Community Building in Knox PA for their Annual Summer Picnic. There were 9 members in attendance on Thursday Dec 10, 2015. The club is planning another Christmas on the River event at the Allegheny Grille in Foxburg, PA. After dinner we are hoping to have enough members present to dance to our favorite singing calls. Dinner at 6:00 p.m. and Dancing at 8:00 p.m.
Shenango Valley Sashayers – Nels Frick said that the club is hanging in there with 5 students on Monday’s Fun Night. They will decide about lessons this Monday. The last 2 dances had 2 squares. Normally they have 3. They dance on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. The Christmas party is Monday Dec 7, 2015 with Drew Loutzenhiser. Sashayers may last about one more year due to money. Next year they are thinking of joining with Brookfield, OH Cloverleafs for the Christmas Dinner Dance.
Roundalab – Nathan Parrot – No report.
Callerlab – (See Flyer) Tom Mohney spoke about accreditation and a public relation committee and a history committee. He said Ed Foote was recognized with a half Century Certificate for 50 years of calling. He mentioned about Hilton Audio Products discontinuing Amplifiers and Speakers. The 43rd Callerlab Convention will be in the Norfolk VA not Washington DC on March 21 – 23, 2016. The theme is “Agents of Change”. The 65th National Convention is in Des Moines IA June 22-25, 2015. Pat Loutzenhiser said Scott Brown was so positive about square dancing. Tom said that they try new things, example Crash Courses, etc.
Ruthie Stiles said that the liability insurance with the names of the club members are needed to be sent to her by Nov 10, 2015. John Simchick will also do the newsletter again. Please send your club schedule, members, officers, Delegates, location, and Times etc. by email by Nov 15, 2015.
Lou Stiles said that there were 4004 dancers at the MA Convention with 49-50 states and 8 countries attending. The PA Convention had 400 dancers at Camp Hill PA in August. The 2016 State Convention is in Johnstown PA with J Butler and Tim Marriner (National Callers) Tom Mohney suggested that the state convention remain at Camp Hill where they make money plus it would be a good idea to make it the same weekend every year. Tom M said it is not worth having National Callers.
Old Business – Ruthie mentioned State memberships and there is a need for a current list. Membership costs one dollar per person for the State Federation. We went over the Executive Board members and eliminated people that do not meet By-Law Requirements. There is a PSRDF meeting on Sunday October 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Johnstown PA. You need to be there to vote. There will be no Federation Dance this year.
New Business – Election of Officers is in September 2015. Nels made a motion to ask if we could reinstate the officers for another term? Olivia Sechriest seconded it. The Constitution states that the officers cannot succeed themselves so it was changed. (Article 6 Section 2) All voted aye. There were no Nays. The motion passed. Lou Stiles – President Tom Mohney – Vice President, Pat Loutzenhiser – Secretary, Ruthie Stiles – Treasurer. Ruth mad a motion to amend the January May and September meetings to March and September (Section 1). There were all ayes, no nays. The motioned passed. The Rich Loutzenhiser made a motion to approve $25 for Tom’s place for the meeting. Nels Frick seconded. It was approved. Tom Mohney said we should go over the Constitution. Ruth asked for the number of fun nights and brief news by October 1, 2015 to be presented at the Oct 4 PA State meeting. The incentive program has been suspended until the PSRDF is in better financial condition.
Rich Loutzenhiser made a motion to adjourn. Olivia Sechriest seconded. The motion passed and the meeting was adjourned at 3:05 p.m., The next meeting will be Sunday March 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Tom Mohney’s home.
