Club Reports:

ABC Dancers – Ann Taub and Nels Frick announced their “Swing into Spring” dance to be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm featuring caller Drew Loutzenhiser and cuer Kathy Mansell.  The event will take place at the First United Methodist Church, 73 Clinton Street, Greenville, PA.  They also reported that the New Years Eve Party was a success with 53 dancers in attendance.  The club currently dances four times per year and will also meet June 22, September 28 and December 31 of 2014.

Castle Paws & Taws – Dick and Mary Ruth McCall stated that the club has been meeting on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays during the winter months.  Currently attendance averages about 2 to 3 sets because many club members travel to warmer climates for the winter season or may be reluctant to drive if the weather turns severe.  No class was held this year.  Starting in April dances are scheduled on a weekly basis at the Cascade Park Pavilion, New Castle, PA.

Circle Eight – John and Olivia Sechriest noted that their club continues to dance 2nd and 4th Saturdays throughout the year.  Attendance averages about 2 sets each evening.  One new couple has been receiving dance instruction during the fall and winter at Warren as well as in the Erie area during the week.

Fiddle-A-Rounds – Tom Mohney announced the club’s 50th Anniversary Dance which will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 7:30 to 10:00 pm featuring callers Tom Rudebock and Tom Mohney.  The event will take place at Kalyumet Campground, 8630 Miola Road, Lucinda, PA.  It’s not just a dance, but an evening to celebrate the good times and to revisit old friendships.  Former club members and area dancers are invited to come and enjoy the party.

Shenango Valley Sashayers – Nels Frick and Ann Taub said the club’s new location at the First Methodist Church, 237 West Silver Street, Sharon, PA was working well.  The facility is on one level and a parking lot is located directly outside the main entrance.  Dance nights are 2nd and 4th Fridays from 8:00 to 10:30 pm with attendance averaging 3 to 5 sets.  Four new dancers were graduated on Monday, March 3, 2014.

Tom Mohney gave the CALLERLAB Report and once again discussed the Copyright Act of 1976.  CALLERLAB members have purchased BMI and ASCAP licensing to help protect the clubs they call for.  Club officers should ask to see a caller’s membership card or check the website (www.callerlab.org) for a list of all licensed members.  Committees within CALLERLAB have been realigned so that tasks support the new mission (“To foster the art of square dance calling and improve caller skills”) in one of the following areas: 1) Mission; 2) Priority; 3) Membership; or 4) Outreach (Liaison).  The 41st CALLERLAB Convention will be held in Reno, NV on April 14-16, 2014.

The 63rd National Square Dance Convention will be held in Little Rock, AR on June 25-28, 2014.  Sites for future conventions will be Springfield, MA (2015); Des Moines, IA (2016); and Cincinnati, OH (2017).  Check the website (www.63nsdc.com) for current information.

Old Business:

Ruthie Stiles explained the importance of keeping the membership lists up-to-date for the PSRDF.  Anyone who has a vanity license plate must either be a life member or purchase a yearly membership.  Ruthie distributed copies of the 2013 Membership Status Reports and requested that clubs return those forms with any necessary changes by April 1, 2014.  (Send to: Ruthie Stiles, 9313 Wattsburg Road, Erie, PA  16509)

The AVSRDF is in its last year of a three year Liability Insurance Certificate.  Ruthie Stiles will gather some general information for the September meeting so that future options can be discussed.  Conditions for renewal, estimate of cost and length of policy are some of the items that need to be considered.

Break – 2:45 pm

Reconvened – 3:00 pm

New Business:

The 21st PSRDF Convention will be held on August 15-17, 2014, at the Penn Stater Conference Center, State College, PA.  Mac McCall will be the featured caller for the Trail-In Dance on Thursday evening and John Marshall will be the featured caller on Saturday evening.  Currently, there are 26 callers and 6 cuers registered for the weekend.  The Booster and Ad Programs are important sources of income for the state federation and help keep dancer registration fees lower.  The Booster Program offers a $50.00 cash award to the name drawn at the convention.  The ads for the Program Book can be from clubs promoting their events or from local merchants.  A request is also being made to all clubs for gift baskets that can be used for fund raising during the convention.

The PA Farm Show Square Dance Contest was held on Monday, January 6, 2014, in Harrisburg, PA.  The 57 sets in attendance were judged on performance, timing, response and rhythm.  Blue Ribbons are awarded for superior performance, Red Ribbons are given for excellent performance and White Ribbons are issued for good performance.  The Danish system recognizes everyone and each member of the set is awarded a ribbon according to their placing.  Division A are dancers under the age of 17, Division B are ages 15 to 25 and Division C are dancers of any age combination.  All events were carried live on the PA Cable Network (PCN).

Nels Frick made a motion to donate $25.00 for the use of Tom’s conference room.  The motion was seconded by Dick McCall and approved.

The next delegates meeting will be held at 9 Kevin Circle, Oil City, PA on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 2:00 pm.

A motion for adjournment was made by Dick McCall.   It was seconded by Olivia Sechriest and the meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Tom Mohney, Acting Secretary
